A Great Night

I baked a dozen braided loaves of love for the Tuesday night FEED MY SHEEP community supper. The Mount Saint Charles Jazz Band played. They were fantastic and soooo inspiring! Chef Kevin made roast beef au jus, and hand-mashed potatoes, gravy and yellow beans. Christine made a gigantic salad with cukes, red onions and tomatoes. June and Alice greeted everyone and made the tables gorgeous with colorful tablecloths and silk flowers. Maddy, Lillian and Colleen sliced and buttered the million slices. Lillian made her famous chocolate cakes. James washed every dish. Roger made the tureen of perfect coffee. It was a great night! I just got a wholesale price from my favorite place to shop: JAR Baker's Supply on Crow Point Rd in Lincoln RI. They sell King Arthur special bread flour in fifty pound bags for 20 dollars! This will be transformed into loaves of bread to feed the multitudes. Bread is so elemental. All you need is flour, salt, water and sprinkles of yeast. I bake hot, in a 450 degree oven for 35 minutes. Bread with fresh onion soup makes a great meal. As grandma would say, What could be bad? What's not to love? Another friend would say upon accepting a dinner invitation: We'll put another bean in the pot. Nobody should go hungry! Even stone soup can be made fabulous. Ideas for the future. I wish we were eating from real restaurant china plates and bowls, and maybe we can someday. Perhaps if a restaurant closes they will donate their plates and bowls to the soup kitchen. I'll wash em', I love to wash dishes! We plan to ask all of our musician friends if they will donate, playing music, for dinner, one night a year.
